A strange melancholy pervades me to which I hesitate to give the grave and beautiful name of sorrow. The idea of sorrow has always appealed to me, but now I am almost ashamed of its complete egoism. I have known boredom, regret, and occasionally remorse, but never sorrow. Today it envelops me like a silken web, enervating and soft, and sets me apart from everyday else.

See? I need to read this book!

Nothing must be postponed. Take time by the forelock. Now or never! You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this, or like the like of this.

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

Do not seek perfection in a changing world. Instead, perfect your love.
Buddha (via ohmyjeannette)

…There are certain people who come into your life, and leave a mark… Their place in your heart is tender; a bruise of longing, a pulse of unfinished business. Just hearing their names pushes and pulls at you in a hundred ways, and when you try to define those hundred ways, describe them even to yourself, words are useless.

Such a beautiful version of this song.

The mind I love must still have wild places, a tangled orchard where dark damsons drop in the heavy grass, an overgrown little wood, the chance of a snake or two (real snakes), a pool that nobody’s fathomed the depth of — and paths threaded with those little flowers planted by the mind.
Katherine Mansfield (via awritersruminations)

How hard it is to escape from places. However carefully one goes they hold you—you leave little bits of yourself fluttering on the fences…little rags and shreds of your very life…

The questions I would have liked to ask people were: ‘Are you in love? What are you reading?’ But I never bothered about anyone’s work, though it is often of primary importance to them.

I have loved to the point of madness, that which is called madness, that which to me, is the only sensible way to love.

I don’t want to be one of those easily forgotten people, so important at the time, so special, so influential, and so treasured, yet years later just a vague face and a distant memory.

Yet again, these are the religious people who are considered the more progressive ones. Just for the record.

Seriously?

Should Carrie Prejean be put to death? That is what it says in the Bible. And God knows more about life than we do. And he means the best for everyone! Including the people he wants to see executed, like gays and women who aren’t virgins on their wedding nights, and we really, you know, it’s a pretty stern warning. But if this shit in the Bible is gonna apply to me and my life, if I am to die, be put to death, my blood upon me, then really, Carrie Prejean first. Doncha think? Stone Carrie Prejean at the Miss California USA Pageant then I will consent to being stoned myself. If you’re not gonna stone Carrie Prejean at the Miss California USA Pageant, fucking drop it. Fucking ignore the anti-gay bullshit in the Bible just the same way that you ignore all the pro-slavery, pro-genocide, pro-infanticide crazy bullshit in the Bible. You do it for so many other things; you can do it for us too.

Anti-gay ravers come in just two flavors: assholes who are externalizing their own internal struggles against homosexual desires (Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Charlie Crist, Joseph Ratzinger, et al.) and assholes who are attempting to compensate for and/or draw attention away from their own moral shortcomings (David Vitter, Mark Sanford, John Ensign, Vic Toews, et al.).
